PROJECT DESCRIPTION

At the end of October, 2006 Groundswell worked with students at High School for Leadership and Public Service (HSLAPS) to produce two banners for the school lobby. The youth muralists came up with themes that they felt illustrated the unique qualities of their education at HSLAPS.

The left banner (South side of the lobby) portrays students eating words out of a book, depicting the concept of ‘Hunger for Knowledge.’ In the center of the left banner a group of students, embrace below a cloud raining the word ‘knowledge.’ The right banner (North side of lobby) illustrates the phrases, ‘A Sense of Being Trapped’ and ‘A Burning Desire to Achieve.’ A girl is looking in a mirror and reaching out to her reflection in imprisonment, illustrating the first phrase.
